Hi, Auggiedoggy. I never tried to learn chords. I just tried to make the sounds I wanted to hear using as many fingers as I could. I did not read any books about piano and nobody showed me how to play. I just began playing chords. I did not realize other people were using them. As far as I knew I invented it. When I started playing with other musicians they would tell me we are playing in"C." I was able to figure it out from there. Some chords I know much better than others. Thanks.

Did you set out to learn as many chords as you could or did you learn the chords you needed when learning or writing a song? I bought myself a piano chords book and a chord wheel (circle of 5ths) but I must admit its more fun to learn new chords by learning a new song. Just curious how you did it. Thanks and thanks for these videos!

Thanks for the comment. My pleasure.

rghoyos @ 11:48 am

excellent stuff! thanks a lot

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Thanks. I am glad to hear of your success. Keep playing and having fun.

I'm learning a lot through your video. I'm so happy today. It seems that I have started getting it…. I really really appreciate your post. THANK YOU!!!!

Featureman @ 11:48 am

I thank you for your kind comment. I hope you have as much fun as I have had with music.

Matrigh @ 11:48 am

Great, mr Tom!
I'd like to thank you so much for those lessons, 'cause i played keyboard with my rock band, but i never played piano. I mean i didn't know how to play with both hands, to play boogie or blues rithms..and i enjoyed playin' rock covers, but not too much.
But all changed when i saw your first lesson: you were very friendly, you teached so well.. i began to practise, and a few moths later i bought a CASIO CDP-200R.. Now i'm playin' in a blues/jazz band.

Thank you so much, mr. Willet

I thank you. I hope many people will try to play piano and surprise themselves. It does not have to be real hard work.

Inky261 @ 11:48 am

You are a genius, Tom. ;-) 5*

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Good Rafael. It just takes a little time but you are already good with music. You also play keyboard well nd you will learn these quickly. What you know on guitar can be done with the piano also. Hugs.

rpbraziliansinger @ 11:48 am

Great!!
I'm gonna practice!! :)

Featureman @ 11:48 am

No. I am always too anxious to show people for free how much fun it is to play chords and sing. I would have trouble teaching from some book or some lesson plan. I am too random.

BigLon @ 11:48 am

You ever teach lessons,
for money I mean?

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Hi, Matthew. Yes. I did not have any teacher nor did I read any books. I just watched some people playing and I figured most of the things I do just by sitting in front of a piano and practicing until I figured out what I was trying to play. I didn't know I was playing chords until someone told me.

matthewlombartmusic @ 11:48 am

Very skilled, Tom!
Did you teach yourself to play?

Featureman @ 11:48 am

You will enjoy it. Just listen to the music inside yourself and then try to play it without thinking someone needs to show you. You will become very good with just an hour a day of practice. We'll have to have another date sometime.

aleishar @ 11:48 am

ooooooooo cool. I didn't know you did these. I have to watch more. =D I stopped my lessons when I was 7. =( I need to get back into music and pick up my guitar more.

nickeax @ 11:48 am

OK, I'll take your advice. Cheers.

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Good. The keyboards are low cost now.

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Hello. Thanks. Just take it slowly and start with Tutorial #1. You will learn at your own speed.

nickeax @ 11:48 am

Excellent. I think this is too advanced for me at the moment, but it's a style that I'd love to tackle one day.

Thanks mate!

bilmekaniker @ 11:48 am

Your making me wana start play piano now =P

Featureman @ 11:48 am

Thanks. There are a lot of public domain goodies out there. In most countries any of Elvis songs from 1958 back to his earlier records are already in the public domain. In the US the songs are protected a little longer but each year new ones become available.

notimetodothisbutt @ 11:48 am

Thanks for the tutorial.
That Public Domain song's pretty good
I think it's better than Elvis' version
